DANVILLE, Va. — The Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) announced its 2024 College Division Women's Volleyball All-State Team, with Washington and Lee University earning three of the four major awards.
Washington and Lee's Allie Bucholz was named the VaSID Player of the Year, Vivi Vasquez was selected as Defensive Player of the Year and Brian Snyder was voted Coach of the Year, while Randolph-Macon College's Allison Lach earned VaSID Rookie of the Year accolades.
Bucholz, a senior setter from Portland, Oregon, started 36 matches and made 1,271 assists for 10.33 assists per set. She also led the Generals with 40 service aces while adding 431 digs and 53 blocks. The 2024 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Player of the Year was an AVCA All-America Second Team and All-Region First Team selection while also garnering All-ODAC First Team and VaSID All-State First Team honors. She finished ranked second in Division III in total assists while ranking 14th nationally in assister per set this season. In addition, Bucholz was named the Newport News NCAA Regional Most Outstanding Player.
Vasquez, a libero from St. Johns, Florida, started 37 matches this season for the Generals. The AVCA Region 6 Player of the Year and All-America Second Team selection set a new program record with an ODAC-record 679 digs, averaging 5.39 digs per set — including a program single-match record of 42 digs. The All-ODAC First Team, All-Region First Team and VaSID All-State First Team selection ranked 10th in the country in digs and 35th in digs per set.
With the help of Bucholz and Vasquez, Snyder guided Washington and Lee to a 35-3 overall record as the Generals won the ODAC championship for the fourth time in five years, earned their first region championship in program history and advanced to the Elite Eight first the first time. Snyder produced four All-Americans, four All-Region First Team selections and four All-ODAC First Team selections this season as the Generals totaled three wins over nationally ranked teams on their way to tying the program record for most overall wins in a single season.
Lach, a freshman outside hitter for Randolph-Macon had a solid first season for the Yellow Jackets. The native of Fredericksburg, Virginia, also was named the ODAC Rookie of the Year and earned All-ODAC Third Team honors this season while totaling 289 kills for 3.04 kills per set — which ranked seventh in the conference.
