VaSID announces College Division Women's Indoor Track & Field All-State Teams
2022-23 VaSID College Division Women's Indoor Track & Field All-State Team
NORFOLK, Va. -- Lynchburg, Christopher Newport, Washington & Lee, and Bridgewater headline the VaSID College Division All-State Women's Indoor Track & Field teams as announced Thursday afternoon by the Virginia State Sports Information Directors Association.
Coach Jim Sprecher from the University of Lynchburg coached Aniya Seward to an All-American performance in the 60m hurdles while leading Lynchburg' women's indoor track and field team to its fourth ODAC title in a row. He helped freshman Hailey Smith to ODAC freshman of the year laurels and an NCAA championship appearance in the 800m, who was the fastest freshman in NCAA 800m race. Sprecher was named the ODAC coach of the year after leading the Lynchburg teams to their 30th men's crown and 13th women's title, claiming both titles for the second straight season. Lynchburg's women have earned four straight ODAC trophies.
Christopher Newport's Alyssa Roach garnered All-American honors in the Long Jump while she was a national qualifier in the Pentathlon as well. Roach was named the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Women's Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Year. She placed 8th at the NCAA Championships in the Long Jump and 14th in the Pentathlon after ranking 1st in the Region in both the Long Jump (5.87 Meters) and Pentathlon (3456). Roach set a new league record in the Long Jump (5.87 Meters). The CNU star collected All-Region and All-Conference honors on the Long Jump, Pentathlon, and 60-Hurdles while winning the Conference Championship for the Long Jump and 60-Hurdles.
Washington & Lee's Bailey Hedgemon was named the VaSID Field Rookie of the Year after setting a new program record in the women's weight throw for the Generals. Throughout the 2022-23 season Hedgemon collected three top-5 finishes in throws events.
Adalia Coleman repeated as the NCAA Division III 60-Meter Dash National Champion representing Bridgewater College on the national level. Coleman earned All-American honors in the 200-meter dash and is a six-time overall All-American. She garnered 2022-23 ODAC Women's Track Athlete of the Meet as well as USTFCCCA All-Region honors in the 60m and 200m events. Coleman was the ODAC champion in the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes and tied school record in the 60-meter with a time of 7.54 seconds, which was the fastest time in Division III.
Lynchburg's Hailey Smith was named ODAC freshman of the year. She ran the fastest time for a freshman in the 800m at the NCAA championships (2:13.07) as she competed in three events for Lynchburg at the indoor championships. She was part of two victorious relay teams while also winning the 800-meter run with a time of 2:16.15, which reset the ODAC championships record. Smith helped her teammates win the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:02.84 ... added a fourth place showing in the mile run at 5:18.17 ... 2:13.38 on flat track at Tufts is 24th-fastest 800m in DIII
VaSID names 44 all-state teams in 23 sports each year, as well as an Academic All-State squad and an all-sports champion in both the University and College Divisions. Membership in VaSID is open to all media relations professionals working at a university or conference in the state of Virginia.
