Washington and Lee Claims 2023 College All-Sport Title
NORFOLK, Va. - The Washington & Lee Generals won 74.7% of its their 2022-23 athletic contests to take home top honors in the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) College Division All-Sports survey announced on Wednesday.
The Generals went a combined 236-77-9 on the year as they edged out Christopher Newport University who went 249-87-5 for a 73.8% winning clip. This snaps a two-year run by CNU as the Generals won their first title since the 2019-20 season.
Randolph-Macon took third overall with a 253-115-5 record (68.5%), while the Apprentice School was fourth with an 87-41 record for a 67.9% winning percentage. Rounding out the top five was the University of Mary Washington with a 203-126-8 mark for a 61.4% winning percentage.
W&L won 78.1% of its women's contests to take that division with a 127-35-5 mark, with CNU coming in second with a 136-54-3 ledger (71.2%). On the men's side, CNU went 113-33-2 for a 77% winning clip with Virginia Union coming in second with a 33-10 ledger and a 76.7% winning percentage.
With the two-year schools, Paul D Camp had the best percentage going 33-19 for a 63.5% mark, while Bryant & Stratton College was 224-131-1 for a 63.1% winning percentage.
Highlighting the national championships include a NCAA Division III Men's Basketball title by CNU and a NCAA Division III Baseball crown by the University of Lynchburg. CNU made the women's basketball championship game along with the softball championship round this spring, while Virginia Wesleyan women's soccer advanced to the national semifinals. In the fall, Mary Washington men's soccer also advanced to the national semifinals.
Outside of the NCAA, Richard Bland College was the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Champions in volleyball and national runner-up in women's basketball. The Apprentice School advanced to the men's basketball semifinals of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Championships and took third at the National Collegiate Wrestling Association Championships. Paul D. Camp advanced to the NJCAA Division III Baseball World Series as well.
VaSID?names 44 all-state teams in 23 sports each year, as well as an Academic All-State squad and an all-sports champion in both the University and College Divisions. Membership in?VaSID?is open to all media relations professionals working at a university or conference in the state of Virginia.
