The University of Virginia sits atop the 2023 University All-Sports Survey
NORFOLK, Va. - The University of Virginia won nearly 66% of its athletic contests in the 2022-23 season to take home the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) University Division All-Sports survey on Wednesday.
Virginia went 261-133-8 for a 65.9% winning percentage to take home the title, snapping a two-year run by Liberty. The title for the Cavaliers was the 18th in the history of the award and the first since the 2019-20 season.
The Cavaliers took home a pair of NCAA titles in women's swimming and men's tennis, while advancing to the College World Series in baseball winning 50 games. Virginia Tech advanced to the Women's Basketball Final Four as well to highlight the year in NCAA Championship competition.
James Madison was second overall with a 220-114-9 record (65.5%), followed by Liberty winning 228-131-10 (63.1%), Virginia Tech at 185-134 (58%) and Old Dominion at 162-131-5 (55.2%) to round out the top five.
On the women's side, JMU took top honors going 139-57-5 for a 70.4% winning clip, with Liberty second as they went 146-70-4 (66.7%). The men's side saw Virginia run away with that title sporting a 140-52-5 mark (72.3%) with VCU coming second with a 75-52-6 (58.7%).
VaSID?names 44 all-state teams in 23 sports each year, as well as an Academic All-State squad and an all-sports champion in both the University and College Divisions. Membership in?VaSID?is open to all media relations professionals working at a university or conference in the state of Virginia. The survey began in 1978-79 and includes winning percentages of only those sports with NCAA sponsored championships.
