Roanoke Men's Basketball Leads Way with Two Major VaSID Awards

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Virginia Sports Information Directors Association released its 2024-25 men's basketball all-state team on Monday, with Roanoke College claiming two major awards. Roanoke's Clay Nunley was named Coach of the Year, while Joshua McClary earned Defensive Player of the Year. Hampden-Sydney College's Adam Brazil won Player of the Year, and Washington and Lee's Connor Ambrosi rounded out the awards with Rookie of the Year honors.
Brazil's campaign included First Team All-America honors from both the NABC and D3hoops.com, along with being named the NABC District 6 and D3hoops.com Region 6 Player of the Year. He also claimed the ODAC Kurt Axe Player of the Year and Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards. A two-time D3hoops.com Team of the Week selection and four-time ODAC Offensive Player of the Week, Brazil posted 25 double-figure scoring games—including three 30-point performances and a career-high 34 points. He averaged 20.4 points per game and led the Tigers in scoring 17 times.
On the defensive end, McClary helped lead the Maroons to the ODAC Championship game and the NCAA Round of 16, earning ODAC Defensive Player of the Year and All-ODAC First Team honors. The guard averaged a conference-high 2.0 steals per game while gaining 4.5 rebounds per game.
Amorosi, the ODAC Rookie of the Year and an All-ODAC Third Team pick, led Washington and Lee in scoring and finished fifth in the league in points per game, with an average of 15.8. Along with his scoring, Amorosi averaged just over five rebounds a game. The rookie started in 23 of the team's 24 games, including all 16 conference tilts.
Coach Nunley guided Roanoke to a 25-6 overall record and a 14-2 mark in ODAC play, reaching the ODAC Championship and the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 for the first time since 1996. The 25 wins were the most for the Maroons since 1993-94. The Maroons' coach now has over 150 career wins with the program.

VaSID names 44 all-state teams in 23 sports annually, an Academic All-State squad and an all-sports champion in both the University and College Divisions. Membership in VaSID is open to all media relations professionals working at a university or conference in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
