Roanoke, W&L Headline VaSID College Wrestling All-State Team
The Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) announced the 2025 College Division Wrestling All-State Team, with Roanoke College and Washington and Lee University combining to collect 14 honors, as well as all three major awards. | By Gary Holden, Ferrum
FERRUM, Va. – The Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) announced the 2025 College Division Wrestling All-State Team, with Roanoke College and Washington and Lee University combining to collect 14 honors, as well as all three major awards.
Roanoke's Mark Samuel was named Wrestler of the Year after capping his junior year with an NCAA title at 141 pounds. Samuel posted an impressive 33-4 record this season with five pins en route to his national title.
Roanoke's Jonah Paulino shared Rookie of the Year honors with W&L's Carter Stack. Paulino went 26-6 at 133 pounds, with six pins, and won the ODAC Tournament title. Stack posted a 30-9final record at 285 pounds and won the ODAC Tournament.
Roanoke's Nate Yetzer earned Coach of the Year after leading the Maroons to a 15-2 dual meet record, a third straight ODAC title, and a runner-up finish at the Region IV Championships. Samuel is Yetzer's first national champ and his second national finalist. Yetzer was named Region IV Coach of the Year and had five NCAA qualifiers.
W&L's Evan Lindner (149 lbs), Mark Troni (165), Jacob Wright (174) and John Santowski (197) all landed spots on the All-State first team. Roanoke's Paulino (133), Samuel (141) and Vincenzo Corvetto (184) also made the first team, as did Averett's Mason Barrett (125) and Anthony Taylor (157), and Ferrum's Rayshawn Dixon (285).
Overall, Washington and Lee landed eight wrestlers on the All-State team, followed by Roanoke with six, Averett University with five and Ferrum College with two.

VaSID names 44 all-state teams in 23 sports annually, an Academic All-State squad and an all-sports champion in both the University and College Divisions. Membership in VaSID is open to all media relations professionals working at a university or conference in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
